An Arkansas high school football player narrowly avoided a potentially dangerous encounter during practice Thursday after a venomous cottonmouth was discovered wedged inside the padding of his helmet.

An Arkansas high school football player discovered a venomous snake in the helmet he was wearing during practice for almost an hour last week.

Police officers eventually had to submerge the helmet in water to coax the snake out before safely removing it with tongs.
